Climate

Positioned at approximately 50 degrees latitude, the climate of the Duchy can best be described as "brisk". Only the lengthy year makes it truly habitable, with a long growing season allowing larger harvests than would be expected on a planet like Earth.

Ducal Lands

Western Reach

Positioned on the western side of the Spine, the Western Reach receives a large amount of rain due to the prevailing westerlies pushing their load of sodden clouds up against the Spine.

Coastal Lowlands

The Coastal Lowlands are generally warmer than the Vale to the north, because of the warming effects of the ocean to the south. The ocean also contributes to the plentiful rainfall experienced there.

Vale of Meldegwyn

The Vale is high and cool, and drier than the Western Reach - but still gets a fair amount of rain because the eastern arm of the Spine is on average 500m higher than the western arm - meaning that it also tends to "squeeze" the rain out of the clouds as they blow across.

Spine of the World

High, foggy, and cold, the mountains of the Spine are an unappealing place to be at any time of the year other than the highest part of summer.

Iron Highlands

Nestled in between the narrowing branches of the Spine, the Iron Highlands are cold and dry.

Thunder Plains

On the eastern side of the Spine, rain is scarce and the summers are hot.

Wildlands

Bloody Plains

Direwood

Peaks of Chaos
